The Kendall County Board is scheduled to meet tonight, Monday, March 8 at 6 p.m. to vote on an update to the county's solid waste plan. The meeting will be held at the Kendall County Office Building at 111 W. Fox St., Yorkville.
The county's first solid waste plan was written in 1995 and has been updated every five years. The latest version of the plan includes a proposal to ban landfills in unincorporated Kendall County as well as methods for dealing with garbage and recycling in the county over the next five years.
Starting in 2006 Kendall County had three separate landfill applications for sites in unincorporated Lisbon Township. Two of those applications were withdrawn and one was voted down by the County Board in a split vote.
Last month a public hearing for an update to the Kendall County solid waste plan was abruptly adjourned after the County Board Chairman Anne Vickery felt citizens were violating rules she established for public comment.
